Costume Rules

 

These rules and recommendations apply to registered members of W.I.D.A. and their dance companies and members there of.
  1. Dancers under 15 years entered in beginner grade competitions must wear the W.I.D.A. approved costume. Girls must wear a bottle green skirt and a white polo shirt with the W.I.D.A. logo patch on the shirt. Boys must wear black trousers, black socks, and W.I.D.A. logo polo shirt.
    Dancers from WIDA registered schools who fail to follow this rule cannot finish in the top three of a result. If all dancers in a competition are from the same school and are all breaking the costume rules then none of the participants can be promoted to the next grade.
  2. Dancers under 15 years entered in primary and intermediate competitions must wear a school costume or the W.I.D.A. approved beginner outfit.
  3. Dancers under 15 years in beginners, primary and intermediate competitions may only wear bun wigs in competition. Full wigs are not allowed an may result in a dancer being dropped from the top three of a result if this rule is not followed.
  4. WIDA dancers in all grades and ages are not allowed to wear diamonte socks in competition.
  5. Dancers under 11 years are not allowed to wear make up.
  6. Dress and skirt length have to be appropriate so as not to cause offense or embarrassment. Necklines must also not be too low. The final decision as to what is appropriate will be determined by the adjudicator who is judging the feis.
  7. A dancer will be allowed to re-dance if a Costume malfunction occurs as long as the dancer waits for the adjudicator to ring the bell. If a dancer stops dancing due to a costume malfunction without the adjudicator's permission, the dancer will be disqualified from the competition.

Recommendations

  1. Stud earrings only.
  2. No rings or necklaces while dancing.
  3. No shoe buckles.
  4. Traditional celtic design be incorporated in costumes (STRONGLY recomended)
