W.I.D.A membership is open to all of those who have read our rules and regulations and agree with our vision on promoting Irish dancing around the World. W.I.D.A is aware that competition and the shows have become the focus of what irish dancing is today but we want to make it clear that in W.I.D.A, fun, friendship and the passing on of knowledge are more important.
We are aware that competition is the quickest way to raise the standard of dancing, especially in a region where Irish dancing has been recently introduced but that is only part of Irish dancing. It is important that we all share our knowledge with the next generation of teachers and dancers. Irish dancing does not belong to any one person or group it belongs to all of those who wish to learn it and also teach it.
To become a member of the organisation there are several steps in the process:
- Stage 1: Application
- Stage 2: Interview
- Stage 3: Probationary Period (1 year) This period is used by both parties to decide if the partnership is viable. At the end of the year a meeting is held where it will be decided if the partnership will continue. During the probationary period all dancers entering competition from the applicant school or group will benefit from entering competition at W.I.D.A preferred rates.
- Stage 4: On successful completition of the probation period. Full membership of W.I.D.A upon payment of the annual registration fee of €100
Non membership of the the W.I.D.A organisation does not mean that dancers from any school are prevented from entering our feiseanna. We are an OPEN PLATFORM group which means that anyone from any school, group or even an individual can enter our local feiseanna and our oireachtas as long as they have completed the requirements that may be asked of them.
Membership of the organisation does not mean that you have to be a qualified teacher to take part in our events. We strongly encourage all teachers and dancers to take part in the examination process but it is not necessary to do so. The main requirement we have is that all adjudicators have a recognised qualification in Irish dance.
A person who or a school that has been registered as a member of WIDA WHOM
A) does not renew their membership or joins another organization OR
A person who or a school that has been registered as a member of WIDA WHOM
A) does not renew their membership or joins another organization OR
B) suspends their membership but has their students compete in events
of any organization
Will not be able to re - register as a member of WIDA at any future date.
The above policies do not prevent any school or dancer from participating in WIDA events as non members at any time except in situations where WIDA retains the rights to refuse an entry.
The WORLD IRISH DANCE ASSOCIATION reserves the right to suspend any member for conduct deemed to be unacceptable or harmful to the image or reputation of the organisation or any other member of WIDA.
