Ceili Dance Teacher Examinations (T.M.R.F.)
Part One
A candidate must dance the following 8 dances (from the Irish Céilí
Dance Book) and teach 2 dances to be selected by the examiners.
1. The Walls of Limerick
2. Fairy Reel
3. Bonfire Dance
4. The Sweets of May
5. An Rince Mór
6. The Siege of Carrick
7. Rince Fáda
8. Harvest Time Jig
A written paper of 10 questions in relation to the above dances will be
attempted by the candidates, and a minimum 70% correct response will
enable candidates to then attempt part two of this qualification.
Part Two
A candidate must dance the following 8 dances (from the Irish Céilí
Dance Book) and teach 2 dances to be selected by the examiners.
1. The Siege of Ennis
2. The Humours of Bandon
3. The High Cauled Cap
4. Morris Reel
5. Cross Reel
6. Four-Hand Reel
7. Eight-Hand Reel
8. Haymakers Jig
As in part one a written paper of 10 questions in relation to the above
dances must be attempted, and a 70% correct response will enable the
candidate to attempt part three of this qualification.
Part Three
A candidate must dance the following 4 dances (from the Irish Céilí
Dance Book) and teach 1 of them to be selected by the examiners.
1. Sixteen-Hand Reel
2. Eight-Hand Jig
3. The Gates of Derry
4. Lannigan's Ball
A written paper of 10 questions in relation to the above dances must be
attempted with a 70% correct response to be able to attempt part four of
this qualification.
As part of this section of the Céilí Dance Teacher Examination all
candidates must attend the offered figure dance workshop to learn the
basics of figure dancing choreography.
Part Four
A candidate must dance the following 10 dances (from the Irish Céilí
Dance Book) and teach 2 dances to be selected by the examiners.
1. The Bridge of Athlone
2. The Waves of Tory
3. Haste to the Wedding
4. Antrim Reel
5. Glencar Reel
6. The Three Tunes
7. St. Patrick's Day
8. A Trip to the Cottage
9. Duke Reel
10. The Rakes of Mallow
A written paper of 10 questions in relation to the above dances with a
correct response rate of 70% must be successfully completed before the
candidate is considered to have passed the examination process.
NB. Scores in the written paper will not be averaged out to
reach an overall 70%. The candidate must attain at least 70% in each part
to be successful in achieving the qualification.
